About Unlearning, Unschooling and Unleashing

We live as if school doesn’t exist. We trust our children and we trust ourselves. We make decisions based in love, not fear. We live without imaginary parameters. We take chances and giant leaps of faith. We love to learn and treat our world as our classroom.

It wasn’t always this way. There was a time where we would live and breathe by a rigid schedule. We worked jobs that we didn’t love, and sent our kids to school. We were overworked, overtired, disconnected, and feeling every side effect of running on a metaphorical hamster wheel.

Cue the pandemic- what a game changer. Suddenly we could see more clearly. Taking pause gave us a new awareness, and created a total shift in the atmosphere of our home. We took the chance to shake things up, pull our kids out of school indefinitely, and move forward with fresh lenses. Little did we know, this was only the beginning.

Our new found love for unschooling- a philosophy based style of homeschooling, began to change our lives in an unexpected way. We began to let go of rules and expectations of our children and ourselves. We got rid of bedtime and ate dessert before dinner. We realized that learning is more about experiences and less about worksheets. We quit our jobs and moved 26 hours away from our hometown. Unschooling has held space for our family to make choices with our hearts instead of our minds; a liberating experience. We don’t always know what the months or years ahead will look like, but we are always brave enough to take the first step forward as a family.

I’m here to share my stories; stories that are messy, chaotic, and painful. Stories that will bring light to the realness of authentic parenting and living. Stories of joy, faith, and breakthroughs. I invite you to come along for the ride as we continue on our Journey To Unlearn.
